faith is absolutely non negotiable because the bible says that without faith it is impossible to please God...(Heb_11:6)
but there is something to consider about faith and that is where you are putting it.
What you put your faith in... the object of your faith is the real issue!
Everybody has faith of some kind, but the kind of faith I am addressing here is called saving faith and it is the only kind of faith that matters to God when it comes to whether you belong to Him or not.
There is a common problem among believers concerning the placement of their faith that is a huge stumbling block and a hindrance from the true freedom we are supposed to be experiencing in Christ.
This problem is not sin... but rather good works.
There are so many people in the churches who are busy doing good works and the works in and of themselves is not even the real problem... the real problem is that some of these people are placing their faith in the good works that they do rather than continuing in the first love kind of saving faith that they had from the beginning when they first placed their trust in Jesus to save them.
The problem with the wrong placement of faith is that is takes faith away from where it is supposed to be, in Jesus Christ and His finished work and puts it back on the believers and their individual performance, like how often you go to church, how long do you pray, have you fasted for 3 days, did you read your bible for an hour every day... on and on it goes and it is never enough!
It is never finished because you cannot make yourself holy and you can never live up to God's perfect standards! If you could then what would you need Jesus for?
Am I saying you shouldn't do good things? NO! I am not saying that: what I am saying is, what are your motives?
Motives are very telling and if you will take a good look at your own you can discern whether or not you are placing your faith in you and your own efforts or in the finished work of Christ...
Col 2:6 Therefore in the manner in which ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him,
Continue everyday to make a proper placement of your faith. Go ahead and do good things & walk in love, but do it because you want to not because you think you have to.
Make a conscious check of your motives for the things you are doing. This will help keep your faith where it should be focused, on Christ not on you. This is the faith that pleases God...when we believe that His sacrifice for our sake was enough, and we trust Him that He will save us because our trust is in Christ's finished work alone!
May God bless you!
