I love this mockingbird! I can say that now with honesty! After several winters together I can say that now I am looking forward to his return. But when I first started noticing him it was not so! He first made his presence known one night when he sat outside my front door on the tv antenna and sang at the top of his lungs all night long! Any of you who know mockingbirds will testify that they can sing for hours and never repeat the same sound twice, but these first few weeks of our coexistence, I was not impressed by his extensive vocabulary! All I wanted was for him to shut up so I could get some shuteye, haha! Before long I learned how to drown him out with a box fan or sleep thru his racket. And then one day I figured out the most amusing game to play with him! Whilst he sits on the power pole and croons (as pictured here) I sit below with my phone voice recorder and capture long sound bites of his song, then I play it back to him. This drives him batty! He swoops down on me thinking I am a male rival who's going to beat him to the female... Lol! When he can't find his competition he returns to his stage and we have a sing off! This is so entertaining! Even my husband can be captivated by this pastime. So I've been missing my little singer just waiting for him to return! He hangs around here from late winter through early spring until the really hot weather sets in. I don't know where they go when they are not here...but I sure miss him when he's gone!
