Witnessing for Christ.
Lately the Lord has put in my heart to talk about witnessing. Before you tune out on me this is not going to be what you think. I know we hear a lot from preachers and church people about witnessing and their definition usually amounts to approaching strangers to ask them if they know Jesus or handing them a tract and hoping they read it on the way to the trash can before they throw it away. I'm not talking about that kind of witnessing or saying there's anything wrong with it except that most of us are not bold enough to do it for long, if at all.
What I am talking about is this, that when an opportunity arises to speak of Jesus that we be bold enough to speak and speak faithfully from a knowledge of the Scriptures. Of course we must have a knowledge of the scriptures to be able to speak with authority, which means you will have to study them before you can be an effective witness.
But in your daily life when the Lord presents opportunities to be a witness are you able to be one or do you shy away from the chance because you are not confident in what you can say?
I will give a personal example of an opportunity that came up for me this week. In a forum that I frequent they are discussing the latest production of Jesus Christ Superstar. This forum has a rule that you can't discuss religion or they will ban you and I many times have to refrain from commenting with what I really believe and sometimes I have been on the verge of getting banned. Well this discussion opened a door for me to point out that the storyline of the production is not accurate and challenge people to compare it to the eyewitness testimony found in the Gospels.
This is the kind of witnessing I am speaking of, that when it would be easier to not say a word we would instead take the opportunity the Lord presents and speak up. And be a faithful witness who knows what the Bible says.
I might still get banned from the forum for saying what I said and if so, so be it. But I won't have to regret not speaking when the Holy Ghost moved me and gave me a chance.
I hope this inspires you to look for opportunities in your daily life that the Lord opens for you to be a witness and that you would be one.
God bless you in the name of Jesus Christ.
